And so I finally got my car started after alot of piece of work. Have an edelbrock carb on it with an electric choke. question where to pull power for the choke. Some have said to run straight to the minor concluding on the starter but mine simply has one big concluding. Tried tapping the wire into the fuse cake, a temporary run just to run the motor, but it blew the fuse I was tied in with. Does the choke power wire need to exist fused and if so what rating? At that place was no mention of this in the paperwork with the carb. How much current does the choke pull, the wire is not the heavy of a guage then can't imagine it is that much.

It is a 20 amp fuse choke/heater on my 80rs. What year automobile is it? There may be a wire already there from the stock electric asphyxiate on quadrajet.

It'southward a 72. Don't think information technology had an electric asphyxiate. Former carb was a manual, and in the seventy's I recall they used chokes that were controlled by manifold temp via 2 lines that connected from choke to intake.

I have ever wondered most this likewise. I looked at wiring diagrams in my Haynes transmission for a 1977, 78, and 79 and it shows a lite blueish wire to the asphyxiate which comes out of a block that has an orangish wire going dorsum to the the fuse block. The fuse is a 20 amp. The 1980 diagram shows a brownish/ white wire going back to the fuse box with a 20 amp fuse. Before 1977 - I don't see an electric choke.

The wiring diagram for the 1972 shows the same orange wire going into the fuse block (location #300). I'll bet you could splice into that orangish wire and be in business concern. Let us know if you get it figured out.

The wiper motor power wire works good for a source.

It's already fused and controlled by the ignition excursion.

I'll have to go out and piece of work on information technology in the next few days. A friend of mine suggested putting an amp meter in between the choke and power and seeing how much information technology draws. He doesn't think information technology would draw too much current. Edelbrock does non ship any info with the carb near the choke

Well I looked upwards the instructions on line. They say to connect directly to switched ability, no fuse. Got a chance to do alittle today, measured the choke resistance and it was 9.2 ohms. That means it should only describe about 1.5 amps ( 12v/ix.2 ohms). Next will be reconnect bombardment and put a amp meter in line between bombardment and choke and verify currnet depict.

OK guys and so this is what I found out. The asphyxiate has about 9.8 ohms of resistance. I put a meter in line with it and found it to draw 3.v amps when the engine was cold and non running. Per edelbrock you are supposed to merely connect the wire to a keyed power source. Since my car "had" a/c I decided to wire the choke to the fuse for the heater and a/c after the 25 amp fuse. Hope this helps others.

Wiper power wire works great.
